Research Interest
I am an educationalist with a main interest in anthropology of education. My empirical research is mainly based on qualitative methods and elaborates the role of rituals, gestures, and symbols in learning cultures and processes of socialization. At the moment I conduct a cross-cultural study in Japan and Germany on the possibilities and challenges of creating a sense of happiness in rituals and ritualizations, especially in experiental learning programs. The major concern of my teaching is to develop an anthropological perspective on education and socialization in modern society.
