Abstract
Perceptual Organization and the Global-Local Relationship
G. Amirkhiabani & W.J. Lovegrove
Previous research has produced contradictory results and ambiguities in regard to the global precedence effect. In the present study, the global-local relationship is discussed in association with perceptual organization and the concepts of part and whale. The global-local relationship is classified into four major categories: inclusion, placeholder, featural and dimensional. Any of these relationships may or may not be accompanied with a semantic relationship between the two levels.
