"Pre-designed refraction" refers to that type of trans-cultural refraction, which occurs as result of a change applied to an innovation by intent and design, when an innovation is transported from one cultural context to another, so as to render the innovation more acceptable within the recipient cultural context. Comparisons are made between Japanese corporations which apply pre-designed refraction with tedious care on product they export to markets outside Japan and American corporations which tend to export their product in the form they are used in the United States could improve the present trade imbalance if it is to become more sensitive to the cultural context of market it is exporting to and apply pre-designed refraction prudently.
