Abstract
Self-Report of Attainment in Experienced Zen Meditators: A Cautionary Note on Objective Measurement
W.C. Compton
Research methodology in the psychology of religion often uses standard psychometric instruments to assess psychological changes as a result of religious participation. Data is presented that suggests a cautionary use of instruments designed to measure attainment or progress with meditation in experienced meditators. Results indicated that self-report of attainment was not related to experience with meditation in spite of other indicators of progress.
